Single Use Assemblies are the Fastest Growing Flow and Treat Market Segment

The world market for single use process assemblies for biopharmaceutical use is predicted to grow more than 25% per year to $7 billion by 2028.

It is a game changer for the entire air, water, energy industry. An incremental revenue increase of $1 billion per year is exceptional growth for a single product in one industry.

For example, the total single use systems revenues are pegged at $1.5 billion in 2026 in the U.S. pharma sector. The aggregate for permanent, valves, pumps, and hoses will be $2.5 billion.

The growth is less spectacular if you include just the components. Of the $1.5 billion in single use U.S sales in 2026 only $600 million will be filtration assemblies. The filter portion is $200 million. Valves, fittings, and tubing is $200 million. The remaining $200 million is in the assembling.

The pre-assembly is an important and challenging task. It is accomplished in ISO 7 cleanrooms with the guarantee that leakage is lower than for an onsite assembly. Most of the packaged assemblies are small but some are large.

Sartorius offers a large scale single use filtration assembly. Maxicaps® MR is a fully contained single-use assembly with up to 27 m² filtration area, designed for large scale filtration in biopharmaceutical applications. The compact and ready-to-use Maxicaps® MR comes pre-sterilized and pre-assembled with 90% less tubing and connectors compared to standard multi-capsule assemblies.

Assemblies are available for filters, mixers, bioreactors, bottles, or bags. They can be used as part of the processing or to eliminate the processing. This is true of bag assemblies used to replace tanks used for buffers. The buffer is already mixed and delivered in bag assemblies.

The flow and treat product vendor can discount the potential in that the hardware component is modest. On the other hand this is the opportunity to create a solution. Profitability is increased with the supply of better solutions.
